Welcome to your wiki for the City of Sonoma
This is one of three wikis that may apply to you:
Please note that a page on any one wiki may redirect to a page on another, usually from a smaller community, e.g. city, to a larger, e.g. valley or county.
How this works
A wiki is a linked set of pages which anyone can edit and expand. This freedom allows for unique expression and helps foster interesting and new ideas in an organic and very dynamic way.
If you see something you think is inaccurate or incorrect, you have the power to change it. If you see that something is incomplete, you can add more information. You can also create completely new content and tie it into the rest of the site. Likewise, others have the power to veto your changes. It is a delicate balance but one which ultimately leaves the users with the content they most want.
Never be afraid to change something or try something new!
You can participate
If you want to participate in developing, improving or maintaining this wiki for our community, please start by reading the
Wiki Guide. You may also want to check out our FAQ.
Create an account
IMPORTANT: In order to edit pages, you must first create an account. This is a very painless process and the only hurdle to contributing content.
Making an account is as easy as clicking a button and choosing an appropriate name (like BobSmith). Just click on the new user button in the top left and enter your name, password and email address. Your account will work on all Sonoma Wikis, the
WikiSpot hub, and all the
other wikis that are part of the Wiki Spot community.
Editing existing pages
Editing an existing page is quite easy. Just click the edit Edit button next to the title of the page above or click the Edit link at the bottom. An editor window will appear with some formatting buttons on the top right, a comment box underneath it and a line of action buttons (e.g. Preview, Save Changes, Cancel, etc.) below that. Type what you want to add, enter a line of text in the comment box and click Preview to redisplay the window with a Draft version of the page below. When you like how it looks, click on Save and You're Done!
Don't forgot to take advantage of the Editing quick-help below the action buttons and it won't hurt to open up the
Help with Editing in another window to use as a reference if you want to make more than a basic edit.
Making new pages!
Wiki's work because people contribute the knowledge they possess; so please eel free to make new pages – just try to remember to link them so they don't become Orphaned Pages. Here are some quick guidelines on how to get started creating pages.
Search for the page first
Before you start creating a new page, search for the name of the page you wish to create first. You might want to try variations on the name, being sure to leave out titles (like "General"), articles (like "the" and "an") and suffixes (like "Inc."). If you find that the page does not exist in the wiki already, you will be presented with the link "Create a new page with this title". Just click on that link and either choose to create a blank page or select one of the Templates offered.
Look for links needing pages
If you don't know where to start check out our list of Wanted Pages or just look for links that go to pages that do not exist yet – they will have a broken underline as opposed to a solid underline. On any page, just click on any link with a broken underline to start creating that page.
Start with a link
The last way to start creating pages is by going to a page that already exists, create a link to the page you wish to create, save the page, follow the link, and click on "Create this page." You will be presented with a list of Templates that you can use as a basis for your page or you can start with a blank page. To use a template, just click on the template name; otherwise just click on the link at the top of the page that says Create this page.
Practice in the Sandbox
If you want to practice editing you can play around in the Wiki Sandbox, or you may first want to check out our FAQ. We also have a list of All Pages in the wiki.
See what has changed recently
To see the most recent edits made you can look at the Recent Changes page. Also, be sure to check your userpage as people will at times leave you comments on there. We also have a list of All Pages in the wiki.
